27 March 21 - St Mary’s Church, Newick Etched Window Cleaning

This week, we were commissioned to clean a large etched glass feature window located in Newick St Marys' church tower. We were extremely honoured to be approached to tackle this job.

When approaching such a large internal project like this, we have to work out the best method of cleaning the etched glass to get the best results, a method that would be suitable for the tight space and to meet with the church budget.

After surveying the project, we opted to use traditional window cleaning using a carbon fibre reach and wash poles working from the safety of the ground.

After providing St Marys' church with our RAMS (Risk assessment and method statements.) and explaining some of our concerns on the project, we were given the green light.

The huge etched glass window (approximate 26ft high) started to look a little tired after the church installed some new led lights installed, highlighting the dirt.

We started by pulling down all the cobwebs from all the surrounding wooden framework and stonework. Then we applied a light detergent using a synthetic applicator, then agitated with a bronze wool pad, with the cleaning solution being removed with a rubber squeegee.

We carried this process in different sections working down the glass cleaning off any extra water runoff.

We think the results speak for themself in these before and after photos. However, check out the testimonial from St Marys' church from our google page.

"Harry had a difficult and technical commission from us, to clean a very large etched glass window in our Church tower. He was extremely thorough in surveying the window and informing us of the exact method of cleaning, the expected result and any issues that might arise. The result is stunning, helped by new lighting which highlights the etched images on the glass. We will be asking Harry again, to deal with more tricky window cleaning challenges!" - 5 Stars | St Marys' church - Via Google.
